Shanghai East Railway Station

Shanghai East Railway Station will be the fourth high-level and second largest train station in the city. It is expected to be finished and put into use in 2024. Different from other train stations, it will connect with Shanghai Pudong International Airport to facilitate the passengers planning to transfer between the train and the flight.

Its distance to downtown Shanghai is about 55 kilometers (34 miles), to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is about 65 kilometers (40 miles), to The Bund and Yu Garden is about 50 kilometers (31 miles) and to Disneyland Park is about 30 kilometers (19 miles).

 After completion, Shanghai East Train Station will be an important stop on the Shanghai – Suzhou – Nantong Railway, Shanghai – Jiaxing – Hangzhou Railway, Shanghai – Suzhou – Huzhou High Speed Railway. So the transportation by train to cities like Suzhou, Hangzhou, Nantong, Jiaxing, Huzhou will be more convenient. Besides, South and North high-speed railways along the Yangtze River will be constructed which will enable the operation of trains at Shanghai East Railway Station to/from Chongqing, Chengdu, Wuhan, Yangzhou, Nanjing, Hefei, etc.
 The train station is planned to cover a floor area of 6 hectares (15 acres). And 14 platforms and 30 tracks will be built. As for facilities, it will be equipped with the arrival hall, waiting hall, ticket selling area, security check area, check-in area, nursing room, police station, service center and so on.
 According to the plan, three metro lines will reach Shanghai East Railway Station.
1.    Airport Express Line: To be opened in 2024, Airport Express Line will connect Hongqiao Railway Station and Pudong International Airport via International Tourist Resort and Shanghai East Railway Station. Passengers can also transfer to Hongqiao International Airport easily by this line.
2.    Metro Line 21: Phase two of the line will be extended to Shanghai East Train Station. Other important stations along this metro line include Wusong International Cruise Terminal, Jinqiao, Zhangjiang, Disneyland Park, and Pudong International Airport.
3.    Extended Line of Metro Line 11: This line will stretch to the train station and Pudong International Airport. And the opened section has stops at Disneyland Park, Oriental Sports Center, Xujiahui, Shanghai West Railway Station, Jiading, etc.  
 When the Shanghai East Train Station beings to serve passengers, many city buses will have a stop here, coming from or going to more places of the city.
 To travel between Shanghai East Railway Station and other major spots, Taxi will also be available. It may cost more but faster than metro.
