Kunming - Zhangjiajie Train

As Zhangjiajie does not have a high speed railway station at present, no high speed trains are available between Kunming and Zhangjiajie. There are 2 pairs of normal trains operating daily between the two cities, two of the most popular tourist destinations throughout China. All trains shuttle between Kunming Railway Station and Zhangjiajie Railway Station and a single trip needs 19 to 20.5 hours. Passengers having a rush schedule can take a direct flight or take a high speed train transfer in Huaihua or Changsha.

Other Transportation Options between Kunming and Zhangjiajie

Transit at Huaihua

If you fail to get tickets for the above direct trains, transiting at Huaihua is an option. There are many high speed trains between Kunming South Railway Station and Huaihua South Railway Station, taking only 3.5 to 5 hours. For the Huaihua - Zhangjiajie leg, passengers can take a normal speed train at Huaihua Railway Station, which takes about 3.5 - 4.5 hours. To transfer between the two stations in Huaihua, passengers can take bus 11, k12, and 204/k204.

Transit at Changsha

It takes 5 to 6.5 hours by high speed train between Kunming South Railway Station and Changsha South Railway Station and around 4,5- 6 hours between Changsha and Zhangjiajie by the bullet train or slow rail ride. Passengers need to transfer between the two stations in Changsha to catch next train. Taking subway line 2 is the best option. It takes about 30min and costs only CNY 3 one way.

If passengers don't want to transfer between different stations, they can take a direct bus to Zhangjiajie from the bus station to the south of Changsha South Station.

Taking flight instead

There are one or two pairs of flights daily. It takes about 2 hours one way. If in urgent cases, flight is the best option for this journey. The full price ticket fare is much higher than a train ticket. While, you can always book some discount tickets in a proper time.
