Passengers should bring a valid ID, such as passport, to purchase tickets at ticketing counters which are open from 6:00 to 23:00. HKD, RMB, Visa, Master Card, Union Pay, Octopus, EPS, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Alipay, and Wechat Pay are accepted. However, the advanced sales periods are 28 days before departure, which means the tickets for popular routes may be sold out as they are on sale online 2 days prior, 15 days before departure.

Please do not line up to use the ticket machines at West Kowloon Railway Station. They don't recognize overseas ID documents.

3. Book on Official Websites - Limited Presale Time & No Live Customer Service

Passengers can book the ticket on the official website of the Hong Kong High Speed Rail, mtr.com.hk/highspeed, or the official website of China Railway Corporation. For both, tickets can only be purchased up to 15 days before departure. If you are traveling during Chinese holidays or on popular routes, please place the order as soon as the tickets are on sale, just in case they are quickly sold out.

The official website of Hong Kong High Speed Rail is open for booking from 6:00 to 23:00. The tickets are allocated automatically and passengers are not able to choose. The site only accepts payment via VISA card, Master Card and UnionPay. As for the official website of China Railway Corporation, the booking time is only available between 6:00 and 23:30 (GMT+8).

However, both of the official websites do not offer any live English-speaking customer service. If you meet some troubles during ticket booking, no one can help you timely with those problems.

4. Call 21200888 for Booking - Inconvenient Booking Steps

The number above is the official reservation hotline in Hong Kong for passengers to book tickets, operating between 7:00 am to 9:00 pm. Passengers are required to enter numerous digits for a successful booking. To avoid the inconvenience of multiple calls, it is advised that you have more than one option before dialing. The booking cut-off time is 120 minutes before departure. Visa and Master Card are the only payment methods. Also, tickets purchased via Tele-ticketing system must be collected at the West Kowloon Station before journey.
