After exiting from the railway station, you can walk west for about 500 meters (550 yards) to find the Central Bus Station. From there, you could take regular tourist buses to the scenic area. The bus journey takes about an hour.
As some schedules for normal trains are not reasonable with arrival or departure in midnight, you can consider transiting at Huaihua. There are more than 40 pairs of high speed trains between Guiyang North Railway Station and Huaihua South Railway Station. It takes only about 1.5 to 2 hours and the ticket fare for second class seat is CNY 171.5 per ticket. You have more options for this leg. Between Huaihua and Zhangjiajie, there are about 8 pairs of normal trains, most of which take about 3.5 to 4.5 hours. Hard seat is fine for this short joruney and the price is CNY 37.5 per ticket.
Note: All the bullet trains stop at Huaihua South Station while the normal trains depart / arrive at Huaihua Station. Passengers have to transfer between the two stations. The distance is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) and it takes about 25 to 30mins by taxi. Please leave at least 2 hours for the transit.
Except the above train options, passenger could take flights instead. While, there is no direct flight between Guiyang and Zhangjiajie. Flights between the two cities mostly have a stopover at Changsha or Nanjing, so the total duration is not much shorter than bullet trains.
