Shanghai has 2 civil airports: Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport. Both of them are top air hubs in China, with Pudong operating most international flights to/from Shanghai and Hongqiao operating most domestic flights. Over 110 airlines operate planes at these 2 airports, waving an air network connecting Shanghai with about 300 destinations around world, including over 125 cities and regions overseas. 
 This airport is 30 kilometers (19 mils) away from the downtown area. Most of the international flights to Shanghai lands at this airport. There are 2 terminal buildings in this airport, both of them cater the international and domestic passengers. The 2 terminal buildings are 500 meters away from each other; it takes about 10 minutes by walk, and 5 minutes by free terminal shuttle. This airport is connected with Hongqiao International Airport by Shuttle Bus Line 1 and Metro Line 2. To transport between this airport and other areas of the city, passengers can take shuttle buses, Metro Line 2 and Maglev. There are also long-distance buses connecting the airport with neighboring cities.

 This airport is 13 kilometers (8 miles) away from the downtown area. The airport has 2 terminal buildings: T1 is for domestic and international passengers, and T2 is for domestic passengers. Passengers can transport between T1 and T2 by Metro Line 10 or by free terminal shuttles. Passengers can transport between this airport and other parts of the city by 10 Shuttle Bus Lines, Metro Line 2 and Metro Line 10.

Tips on Finding Cheap Flights to Shanghai

1. Booking air tickets 1-3 months ahead, because it is usually more easily to get a high discount if reserve earlier.

2. If the ticket price of international flight to Hangzhou or Nanjing is much cheaper than the ticket of the direct flight to Shanghai, passengers can fly to Hangzhou or Nanjing first, then transfer to Shanghai by high speed train.

3. Passengers with limited travel budget should better avoid the public holiday and peak seasons from April to October, because there is usually low discount, 20% - 40% off, or even no discount for domestic flight during those period. Normally, in low season from November to next March, domestic flight tickets enjoy a 30% - 60% off discount.

4. If your dates of departure and return are fixed, buy round-trip tickets, because they usually have higher discounts than one-way tickets.

5. The airfare to Shanghai of the flights that departing/ arriving late at night or early in the morning usually enjoy higher discount than tickets of flight departing/ arriving in other periods.
