Xikou-Tengtou Tourist Area

Xikou and Tengtou were originally two separate scenic areas in Fenghua of Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. In 2003, they were combined into one. Here, one can climb mountains with fascinating stones, waterfalls, and primary forest; learn the stories of Chiang Kai-Shek (former President of the Republic of China) and the Chiang family; go rafting; and experience rural life in China.

Xikou itself is a large tourist area: famous for beautiful natural scenery like Xuedou Mountain and Shanglianggang Hill; known as the hometown and birthplace of Chiang Kai Shek and rich in the historical relics of the Chiang Family; popular among adventurers for rafting, etc.

Xuedou Mountain

There are two main sites on the mountain. Xuedou Temple will bring you to a peaceful and quiet wonderland. Standing in the temple, you may find yourself slowly relaxed. In the temple stands a 2000-year-old ginkgo tree, which requires five people to encircle. You can go to the tree and make a wish to be healthier and live a long life. There is a great possibility your wish will come true.

The second site, Xufu Rock, will show you a different stone appearance. The rock looks like a stone monkey bowing down.  Its elevation is about 1,562 feet (476 meters). Not far from the rock is a waterfall with a drop of 381 feet (116 meters). When sunshine hits the waterfall, there is a rainbow over it.

Shanglianggang Hill

Famous for its forest, the hill is home to more than 1,000 kinds of precious plants and animals. Visitors can admire the primary forest and take part in entertainment related to local folk customs, such as tasting special local snacks, appreciating characteristic shows and playing local games with other visitors. You can have a good meal in the barbecue garden, watch the agile dancing of the Dai nationality, make a rice cake yourself, ski in the skiing park, or enjoy the musical fountain with your beloved under the moon. The activities will give you a relaxed mood and great joy.

The Native Place of the Chiang Kai-Shek

As the hometown and birthplace of Chiang Kai Shek, Xikou has many sites related to him and the Chiang family, such as Wenchang Pavilion, Wuling School, the Chiang Ancestral Hall, the mausoleum of Chiang’s Mother, Fenghao House, and so on.

Wenchang Pavilion is the former residence of Chiang Kai-Shek. It was built in the Qing Dynasty (1644~1911). In December, 1927, Chiang and his wife lived here for a period, after which the pavilion became their personal residence. The pavilion contains two floors. They met their guests on the first floor and lived on the second. Ten years later, Chiang Ching Kuo (the eldest son of Chiang Kai-Shek), came here with his wife and son and lived for a while too.

The Chiang Ancestral Hall is already more than 600 years old (also built in the Qing Dynasty). The Chiang families hold their wedding ceremonies and worship their ancestors in the hall.

To go to the mausoleum of Chiang's Mother, visitors traverse a 730-yard-long road made of cobblestone. Every time Chiang Kai-Shek went back to visit his mother's tomb, he walked on the road taking no palanquin, showing his respect for his mother. The four Chinese characters on the tomb were written by Sun Yat-sen (a pioneer of the Chinese democratic revolution and the first president of Republic of China), meaning Chiang's mother was a perfect model for women. The couplet was written by Chiang himself, showing his remorse to his mother because he was naughty and did a lot of wrong things which made his mother angry or tired. The couplets also show that he is well educated and dutiful to his mother, too.

There are additional sites in the Xikou Tourist Area: the Banzhu Rafting, about 1460 yards (1500 meters) long and lasting for about an hour; Sanshi Village, where visitors can experience rural farm work; the Thirty-six Bay Village; the garden on the mountain, etc.

Tengtou Village

Tengtou Village is a typical Chinese village, where you can see the distinctive plants and watch the animals perform. Most interestingly, you can pick strawberries (late December~ early May), honey peaches (mid July~ mid August), and grapes (late July ~ early September) yourself. Also, you can grind soybean milk with your own hands, tread the waterwheel, and play featured local games. There are some Chinese gardens in the village as well as an orange grove, and a one thousand-year-old apricot tree.

The village is separated into two parts. The eastern area is characterized by agri-tourism, and is famous for its fountain square and a garden full of potted landscapes. Visitors can have a lot of fun here: appreciating the precious plants, rowing a boat on the lake, joining the pig racing game, feeding the ducks and doing the cross-gender imitation shows. The western area is famous for its rose garden, picking activities and games, such as delivering the grain with a wheelbarrow, grinding soybean milk, making straw sandals and so on.

There are additional activities in Tengtou Village you can take part in, like bonfire parties, camping, and the game "round up the enemy spies". Moreover, the farm work consists of various labor activities in the fields, which will help you experience rural life in southern China.
