Wukang Road

Wukang Road is a famous historical and cultural road in Shanghai, China. On both sides of the road are plane trees and many European-style buildings built in the early 20th century, once inhabited by many celebrities. There are also many web-star shops in Wukang Road worth visiting, including restaurants, snack bars and fashion shops.

The road, running from Huashan Road to Huaihai Middle Road, is located in Former French Concession. It is about 1,200 meters (1,300 yards) long and was originally called Route Ferguson, named after American missionary John Ferguson. It was built in 1907 by The Highest Administrative Authority of the French Concession.
 

Representative Buildings on Wukang Road

Wukang Building

The Wukang Building, formerly known as the Normandie Apartments, is the landmark of Wukang Road. It boasts the first veranda style architecture in Shanghai. Built in 1927, it is shaped like a giant ship.
 

Ferguson Lane

Ferguson Lane is located at No. 376, Wukang Road, Shanghai. The fence over the gate to Ferguson Lane reads "Ferguson Lane". The sign on the left side of the gate indicates that there are more than 10 establishments including restaurants, hotels, beauty salons, clothing stores, flower shops, and galleries here. The three large black Arabic characters “376” are on the wall to the right. Entering the small lane, there are two French red brick buildings of different heights on the right which seem to put you in the France of sixty or seventy years ago.
 

Web-Star Shops in Wukang Road

WIYF

WIYF which means “what is your flavor” provides ice cream with different flavors like sea salt caramel, strawberry, raspberry, chocolate almond, etc. Although there are not too many varieties, WIYF ranks first among Wukang Road ice cream shops. Their ice cream cones are made on- site.
 

Farine

Farine is becoming a popular attraction on Wukang Road. Farine is said to have the best croissants in Shanghai, made of fine flour with exquisite craftsmanship. In addition to bread, desserts are also beautiful and delicious. The shop's one wooden table is often crowded with diners.
 

Rachel's

Rachel's is an American-style fast food restaurant, specializing in hamburgers, french fries and soda. The beef gravy is very rich, and the butter sauce and small peppers in the hamburgers are just right. The design of this tropical iron house style is very unusual, making it one of the most special restaurants on Wukang Road. The interior decoration is full of retro flavor, taking us back to the United States of the 1960s with bright lake blue tabletops and a brown leather sofa.
 

Catie Lo

This is a fashion shop mixing retro style and cute style which has chic dresses and exquisite accessories. The shop itself actually sports a landscape of Wukang Road, with a graffiti facade and wrought iron decorations in the shade of the trees.  
 

How to Get to Wukang Road

1. Take the metro line 10 or line 11, get off at Jiaotong University Station, go out from 7 to exit, and walk almost 350 meters (380 yards) to the east.
2. Take the bus line 26, 911, 920 and 926, get off at Huanhai Middle Road Wukang Road Station.
3. Take the bus line 48, 113, 328 and 548, get off at Huashan Road Wukang Road Station.
4. Take the bus line 96 and get off at West Fuxing Road Wukang Road Station.
