Qingjiang River Gallery

Lying in Changyang Tujia Autonomous County in Yichang of Hubei Province, Qingjiang River Gallery is famous for the crystal-clear water, the picturesque mountains and culture of Tujia ethnic minority. There is a saying, "Scenery in Qingjiang River is as beautiful as an exquisite landscape painting, while the Changyang section is more wonderful than a gallery." The three most famous scenic spots along the Qingjiang Gallery are Reflection Gorge, Xianren Village, and Wuluo Zhongli Mountain.

Reflection Gorge

Measuring about 3 miles (5 kilometers) long, Reflection Gorge is the first main spot along Qing River Gallery. The water here is so clear, giving visitors the impression that the fish are swimming in the trees and the birds are having a rest in the water. On either side of the gorge there are many amazing stone landscapes the most famous of which is Qingjiang Giant Buddha Mountain. It is naturally formed and resembles a Maitreya. With a height of about 912 feet (278 meters) and a bottom width of about 486 feet (148 meters), the mountain is two times larger than Leshan Giant Buddha in Sichuan.

Xianren Village

Getting into the village, tourists will first see many stilt houses of local Tujia people, antique and glorious. Inside the village, there is a Xianren Cave you must not miss, inside which lies a unique rock, special grass with sweet smell, and a temple worshiping Guanyin and Buddha, as well as lots of macaques. The drinkable spring water in the village is said to improve eyesight and give one a clear head; hence the spring is named "Smart Spring".

Wuluo Zhongli Mountain

Wuluo Zhongli Mountain is the cradle of the Tujia people. The whole mountain seems like it is floating on the water, and the elevation of the main peak is about 1,304.1 feet (397.5 meters). The White Tiger Stone on the mountain is shaped like a tiger roaring toward the sky. It is said that the first king of Ba People became a white tiger after he died, so Tujia people regard white tiger as their patron god. Moreover, visitors coming here may taste the Qingjiang Fish, which has enjoyed a high reputation for centuries.
