Bijie City, the gateway to the northwest of Guizhou, is situated at the junction of three provinces – Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou. The population of its ethnic minorities covers 28 percent, mainly including Yi and Miao.

In China, where there are ethnic minorities, there is splendid natural scenery. Of course, Bijie is not an exception. It is the home of the famous Zhijin Cave, the paradise of plants and also the fairyland of rare birds. Simple ethnic minorities' villages are inlaid on this marvelous land like pearls. Their colorful costumes, primitive languages, traditional dancing, folk songs and unique customs together with the charming landscape are always absorbing. Additionally, with a subtropical monsoon climate, Bijie has a warm winter and a cool summer. Such a good climate is very beneficial for sightseeing.

If you are going to Bijie, it's suggested you should visit Zhijin Cave Scenic Spot. Zhijin Cave is considered to be the first among the six most beautiful caves of China. Located in Zhijin County, the cave is a museum of Karst.

Then, you can go to the Caohai Lake, Jiudongtian Scenic Area or One-Hunderd-Li Azalea Belt Scenic Spot. Caohai Lake, located in the suburb of Weining County, is the largest natural freshwater lake in Guizhou Plateau where many aquatic animals, fish, birds, waterfowls and plants live. When spring comes each year, many birds fly back to the lake. Many bird-lovers and bird experts will head for this place. Jiudongtian Scenic Area lies on the border between Nayong and Dafang counties. It is a marvelous natural phenomenon with 'u' and 'v' shaped valleys, limestone caves and underground streams. The One-Hundred-Li Azalea Belt Scenic Spot, situated between Dafang and Qianxi counties, is the largest natural azalea belt in China. It extends 50 kilometers (about 31 miles) in length on a narrow hill. Each March, azaleas are in bloom and the hill becomes a large kaleidoscope of gorgeous colors.

If you stay in Bijie for another several days, more attractions around the city are highly recommended for you, including Hezhang National Forest Park and Jiucai-Ping Stone Forest in Hezhang County, Datun Chieftain's Manor of Yi Nationality built in 1821, and Dongfeng Lake in Anyuan County. Additionally, if you want to get a close touch with the local ethnic minorities, you can visit Weining County or Kele Town of Hezhang County, where is mainly inhabited by Yi, Hui, Miao nationalities or go to the mountain area on the border of Liuzhi, Zhijin and Nayong counties. In particular, on the border of Liuzhi, Zhijin and Nayong counties, you can find a branch of Miao People, Changjiao Miao (Long-horn Miao). Its women use wooden horns together with their departed fathers' hair and black hemp thread to make a chignon. At present, the population of Changjiao Miao is about 4,000. They seldom communicate with the outside and still keep some primitive customs.
