Zhangye Road Pedestrian Street

Zhangye Road Pedestrian Street, located in the center of the ancient city of Lanzhou, is regarded as the landmark as well as the heart of the city. With a history of over 100 years, it is praised as the oldest and most cultural commercial street of Lanzhou, extending 600 meters (650 yards) from east to west with various malls, stores, and restaurants. The City God Temple with a history of over 1,000 years is also sited there, surrounded by antique shops.

Zhangye Road Pedestrian Street has two storeys. On the ground floor, modern shopping malls like Xi Tai Hua Mall, Ya Ou Mall, New World Department Store, Fund Department Store, and Huisheng Shopping Center can be found. Visitors can buy almost everything in these shopping malls at a favorable price. Among them, Ya Ou Mall is the oldest and largest, selling some high fashion products. In addition, visitors can find interesting discounted products in the underground level shops and enjoy delicious local snacks.

Zhangye Road Pedestrian Street is connected with some ancient streets such as Longxi Road, Dazhong Lane, Yongchang Road, and Muta Lane.
Longxi Road, near the eastern end of the street, is lined on both sides with jade shops.
Dazhong Lane opposite the Longxi Road is a popular snack street with time-honored brands including Du’s Dessert, Mazilu Beef Noodles, and Du Weicheng Grey Beans. Besides, fruits, nuts and milk tea can also be tasted there at a relatively low price.
The night market of Yongchang Road to the west of Dazhong Lane should not be missed. It is a busy wholesale center with the richest sources in Lanzhou and is a popular shopping destination for people of all ages. Visitors can immerse themselves in its bustling night market.
Muta Lane near the western end of Zhangye Road Pedestrian Street is well known for its tasty dishes all over the country. If you are a food lover, you should definitely put Muta Lane on your to-do list. Visitors can admire its ancient buildings and historical atmosphere.

The City God Temple near the Dazhong Lane was built in the Northern Song Dynasty (960 – 1127). Nowadays, it has become the workers’ club as well as the largest cultural antique market in the city. Around the temple, visitors can buy brilliant scripts, paintings, and handiworks.
