Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution

The Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution, located on the west of Tiananmen Square along Chang'an Avenue, is the first comprehensive military history museum in China. The museum covers an area of more than 159 thousand sq m (190 thousand sq yd). It aims to collect, research and exhibit cultural relics, material objects and documents of the achievements and history of the Chinese military.

The main building of the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution is 95 m (310 ft) tall and consists of 7 floors, and it has two wings of four stories. A huge Chinese People's Liberation Army emblem with a diameter of 6m (20 ft) is located on the top of the main building. The name for the military museum was given by Chairman Mao, and now the plaque with the name hangs above the front gate. The bronze gate is 16 feet (5 meters) tall and made of cartridges. On the two sides of the gate stand white marble statues of heroic marines and corps.

The Revolutionary Wars Led by the Chinese Communist Party

This exhibition aims to display the 22-year revolutionary war led by the Chinese Communist Party. There are more than 1,300 documents, more than 2,600 cultural relics and more than 40 artworks. The exhibition is located on the second floor of the main building and occupies 3 halls in the east and west separately.
 

The National Defense and Army Development of People's Republic of China

This exhibition shows the history and brilliant achievements of the people’s army of China since the establishment of People's Republic of China. There are more than 1,200 documents, more than 1,800 cultural relics and more than 10 artworks. This exhibition is located on the third floor and occupies 3 halls in the east and west separately.
 

Long March

This is a re-exhibition of “Commemorate the Victory of the Long March” in 2016. This exhibition is located in the west hall of the south wing building’s 4th floor.
 

Military Diplomacy of China

This exhibition shows the development and achievements of China’s military diplomacy. This is located in the east hall of the south wing building’s 4th floor.
 

Weapons

The weapons are classified according to the type of equipment, showing the development and expansion of the people’s army of China. There are nearly 300 large-size weapons and more than 1700 light weapons. This exhibition is displayed in 3 areas- the basement, the first floor and the east, west and south winding corridors of the second floor.
 

Military Affairs of Chinese Ancient Dynasties

It is reappearance of the most representative part of Chinese history of war to 1912. There are more than 600 documents, more than 1,300 cultural relics and more than 60 artworks. This exhibition is located in the 3 halls of the east of the first floor.
 

Military Technology

This exhibition, using modern science and technology, shows the armament’s technology of navy, air force and army, the technology of guided missile and the peaceful use of nuclear weapon. This exhibition is located in 6 halls of the underground floor, the first floor and the second floor.
 

Military Arts

This exhibition shows art works with a military theme. It is divided into oil paintings hall, sculpture hall and traditional Chinese painting hall, located in the east, middle and west halls of the new north building’s third floor.

Tips:
1. Leave your baggage in the allocated areas before entering if your baggage is bigger than a regular backpack.
2. Taking video is forbidden in the halls. Please don’t use flashlight and tripod while taking photo. Taking photo is forbidden if there is a notice.

How to get to Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution

1. Take Subway Line 1 or Line 9 and get off at Junshi Bowuguan (Military Museum) Station. Get out from Exit A and you can see the museum.
2. Take bus 1, 21, 52, 65, 68, 78, 85, 94, 308 and get off at Junshi Bowuguan Station.
