Lao She Teahouse

Lao She Teahouse, Beijing, China was established in 1988, and it was named after Chinese novelist Lao She and his drama “Teahouse”. It is located to the southwest of Tiananmen Square and is to the west side of Qianmen. Visitors can not only enjoy the tea, authentic royal dessert, and a variety of Beijing snacks. Afterwards, one may also enjoy opera, acrobatics, dance, calligraphy, guzheng performances and other types of performances. Both in form and function, the teahouse inherits and retains the lingering charm of old Beijing teahouses. This decorative style fully embodies Chinese aesthetic philosophy. This pristine environment showcases: wooden windows, Chinese hardwood furniture, and all revealed in traditional Beijing style.

Performance Hall

What to Do: Appreciate Peking Opera, Acrobatics, Magic, Sichuan Opera Face Change, gastriloquism, Dance, Crosstalk, Chinese Kung Fu, Tea Show.
Performance time: 19:50-21:20 every day. There are crosstalk performances at 15:00-17:00 from Friday to Sunday.
Location: In the west district of the 3rd floor.
 

New Beijing-Style Tea Restaurant

What to Do: Taste old Beijing snacks and specialty tea dishes.
Time: 10:00-22:00. There are five shadow play performances at 12:00, 13:00, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00.
Location: In the east district of the 1st floor.
 

Pin Zhen Pavilion

What to Do: Taste various types of court tea.
Time: 10:30-14:00; 17:00-21:30.
Location: In the east district of the 3rd floor.
 

Big-Bowl-Tea Water

What to Do: Drink old Beijing big-bowl-tea water.
Time: 10:00-16:00.
Location: At the front gate of the teahouse.

What to Do: Enjoy storytelling and drum songs.
Time: 14:00-16:30 on Saturday for storytelling, 14:00-16:30 on Sunday for drum songs.
Location: In the west district of the 2nd floor.
 

Lao She Teahouse Tickets Fare

Depending on the seat location, the fare is CNY 80, 120, 180, 280, 380, 480, 580 in the Performance Hall; usually, the closer the seat is to the stage, the higher the ticket fare.

In other perforemance halls, the average cost is CNY 30-90 per person.
 

Kind Reminder:

Lao She Teahouse has two branches in Beijing, but they only offer tea and related gifts, so it is not so recommended.
Datun Branch: 1F, Building F, Jinquan Square, Datun North Road, Chaoyang District.
Wanshou Road Branch: 1F, No.16, Cuiwei Zhongli, Wanshou Road, Haidian District.
 

How to Get to Lao She Teahouse

1. Take Subway line 2, get off at Qianmen Station, exit C, and walk about 700 meters (760 yards) to the northwest.
2. Take Subway line 1, get off at Tiananmen West Station, exit C, and walk about 1,000 meters (1,100 yards) to the south.
3. Take city buses 332, 67, 44 outer line, 9, Te2, get off at Qianmen Station and and walk about 400 meters (440 yards) to the south.
4. Take city buses 22, 599, 82, 8, Te4, Te7, tourism bus 1, and tourism bus 2 to Qianmen Station, then walk west for about 500 meters (550 yards) to get there.
