Beijing Baoguo Temple

Beijing Baoguo Temple is located in the north side of Guang'an Mennei Street, Xuanwu District. It was firstly built in Liao Dynasty (907-1125) with a small scale, hence named 'Small Baoguo Temple'. After the collapses in the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and a great earthquake in 1466, it was rebuilt and changed into 'Baoguo Temple'.

This temple faces south on the whole, with the buildings inside the temple constructed on a central north-south axis. It originally had 6 rows of houses, but now only 4 rows remain. Entering into the temple, you may see two stone lions standing in the front of the first row and two tablets on stone turtles in the east and west side respectively. Inside the second row, there is a Palace of Heavenly Kings and two stone tablets at the door of the hall. Besides that, side halls are built in the east and west side. The roof of the main hall in the third row is mainly covered with grey tiles and some green glazed tiles in the edge. A platform in brick and stone is in the front of the hall. The last row has a back hall with side halls on both sides. In addition, there are also some stone tablets from ancient times in the very back of the temple, for instance, the tablet to commemorate the completion of the temple in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the poem tablet of reconstructing the temple in the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912).
