Destinations along Trans-Mongolia Route

The Trans-Mongolia plays an important role in connecting China and Russia, the railways connect China in the east and link to Russian in the westbound. Many travelers takes a tour here and then head to Beijing or Moscow by train from Ulaanbaatar. We would like to offer some introduction along the way, and what is the highlight that can be expected. 
 

Ulaanbaatar (Ulan Bator)


Mongolia is flattered as “The land of eternal blue sky”. Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, is built on the grassland and located in the north central Mongolian Plateau. It is also the political, economic, cultural, transportation, industrial and technological center of the country. And nearly half of the population of Mongolia lives here. 

Highlights: 
Gandan Monastery – the most important monastery in Mongolia. 

Terelj National Park – a nature reserve in the Kent mountains, and it is 80 kilometers away from Ulaanbaatar. Visitors can stay one night here to appreciate the lofty mountains, and dense forests, murmuring rivers and the other unique natural landscapes. 

National History Museum – It is the earliest museum in Mongolia with rich collection. It is located at the northwest corner of Genghis Khan Square, where you can also have a look at the Parliament House, the National Opera and City Hall.

There are some other important scenic spots, such as The Gobi Desert, Hustai Natural Park, and the Winter Palace of the Bogd Khan.  
 

Zamyn Uud and Erlianhot 


These two cities are border cities of Mongolia and China respectively. When the train stopped at Zamyn Uud, all passengers are required to show their customs declaration and immigration forms, and the luggage will be checked, too. Once the train arrive at Erlianhot, then you enter China. 
 

Hohhot 


Hohhot is an important tourist cities in China, it is also one of the open border central cities opening to Mongolia and Russia. The highlights are Xilamuren grassland, Gegantala Grassland, Chilechuan grassland and Xiangshawan. 
 

Beijing 


The capital of China, Beijing is an ancient capital with a history of more than 3000 years. It reflecting the profound Chinese culture since from the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, with many historical sites and cultural landscape, is famous for its most world cultural heritage. The highlights are Forbidden City, the Great Wall, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Beihai Park, Ming Tombs, etc. 
 

Sukabaatar and Naushki


The two are boarder cities between Mongolia and Russia. Passengers leave Sukabaatar and then enter Russia. The customs is really strict, taking photo is not allowed. The train will stop at Naushki for about 2-3 hours. Passengers can get off the train to stretch your body. 
 

Irkutsk


Irkusk is the largest industrial city in Siberia, and it is the nearest city to Lake Baikal. It is regarded as "the heart of Siberia" by Russians and "Oriental Paris" by foreign tourists. If you want to take a tour to Lake Baikal, then you can purchase the ticket in sections, to Irkutsk firstly and then another section to your next destination. 
 

Ekaterinburg


Ekaterinburg was founded in 1723, named after queen Yekaterina it is on the dividing line between Europe and Asia and 1667km away from Moscow. The most important sites are Church of the Resurrection of Christ and Monument of Eurasian Boundary. Then the train moves ahead to Moscow.
